The Helmsley Institute for Advanced Health Training & Education

The current flagship project of Zefat Academic College is the construction of The Helmsley Institute for Advanced Health Training & Education on campus grounds, aiming to improve the quality of life of the Galilee region.

The Need

Simulation systems have been widely identified as important tools in the ability to improve patient safety, reduce human error, improve quality of care, and impart and test clinical skills. In Israel's northern periphery, only three hospitals serve the area's vastly dispersed population – all of which lack an advanced medical training facility, therefore limited in their health preparedness and in ability to provide quality health care for their patients.

As the single institution of higher education in the Israel's northern periphery specializing in the allied health professions, Zefat Academic College took upon itself the innovative challenge of establishing medical simulation institute in favor of its students, local health professionals and surrounding community.

This groundbreaking Institute is named after the Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust, which understood its tremendous power to transform the area's medical reality, and answered our College's search of partners by generously donating 6.3 million dollars in favor of purchasing of electronic infrastructure and advanced medical simulation training equipment.

The Helmsley Institute for Advanced Health Training & Education – Simulation Transforming Reality

The Helmsley Institute for Advanced Health Training & Education will be a unique training facility that will transform the learning experience of students and healthcare professional from passive to active, by providing them with the ideal conditions to practice advanced technologies and innovative training methods.

The Institute's vision is to promote excellence in clinical care, strengthen and refine aspects of safety in the medical workplace and improve students' performance by implementing a wide range of simulation-based medical education. Bringing to the fore experiential learning opportunities will improve the clinical skills and communication skills of healthcare students and providers, and create a safer, more ethical and humane culture for medical treatment.

The total area of the Helmsley Institute for Advanced Health Training & Education will be approximately 1,719 square meters (5,640 square feet). It will include four main components: a teaching and training wing for the Nursing School and a teaching and training complex for the School of Physical Therapy and the Department of Emergency Medicine. The center will operate in full cooperation with a number of medical institutions in northern Israel.

Thanks to Helmsley Trust's gracious donation, the Institute will be equipped with state-of-the-art simulators, which will allow the college to transform health education, improve patient care and upgrade crisis management.
